4-H Shooting Sports

The 4-H Shooting Sports program provides safety training for youth and adults in various shooting and study disciplines.  Adult volunteers become certified by participating in weekend training events held twice each year at 4-H camps.  Older teens may also be certified as Junior Leaders at the instructor training weekends.  Disciplines include: archery, pistol, rifle, shotgun, hunting and wildlife studies and black powder (muzzleloaders).  Additional training is available through Living History sessions which allow instructors to choose a particular era in time.

Hunter Education

Completion of a hunter education course is required for all first-time hunting license buyers in Ohio (ORC 1533.10). The hunter education course covers topics such as firearms, ammunition, gun handling, archery, hunter responsibilities, outdoor safety, wildlife management and conservation, and other related information. This course is beneficial for everyone, even if hunting is not your goal. Ohio's hunter education course is accepted all across North America. Ohio offers three types of hunter education courses, which include instructor-led and home-study courses and proficiency testing for those 18 years of age and older. Hunter education courses are offered year round.  Call 1-800-WILDLIFE to schedule your class or test.  You can also visit Ohio's Department of Natural Resources website for more information.
