Knox County Master Gardener Volunteer Program

Last modified 2008-05-12 10:11

The Knox County Master Gardener Volunteer Program (MGV) was initiated in the early 1990s and has grown until today there are currently 22 active Master Gardener Volunteers.  These volunteers work with Extension Educators to expand the reach into the community and contribute many hours in a variety ways including: teaching horticulture practices, conducting field trials, organizing field days and many other community programs.

Through the Master Gardener Volunteer School 50 hours of intensive classroom and field training on horticultural practices and methods develops each participant into a qualified, skilled representative for the county.  As part of the training process each volunteer fills out an application to participate in the course and is screened through the state office.  Upon completion of the course the newly trained MGVs represent the Ohio State University Extension Program and the Knox County Extension Office in a voluntary role.

The next Master Gardener School in Knox County will be conducted in 2009.  If you would like to be on list to receive information on the school as it becomes available or to locate a school in the area that is being conducted in 2008 please contact Troy Cooper at cooper.351@osu.edu
